On this day in 1890 Wyoming entered the Union as the 44th U.S. state.

As daughter #1 says, quoting Liz Lemmon, I want to go to there. In fact, it is at the top of my list.

The state flower is Indian Paintbrush.

And my favorite movie was filmed there.
Sigh.
Me too! It has always been my ambition to move to Wyoming and open a bar — the kind of dark dusty place that only a few select people actually visit and they sort of nurse their drinks and talk intermittently all day and go home at a civilized hour, maybe weaving a bit, but not really drunk.
Shane is your favorite movie? That’s interesting. Can’t say I have one — just the amorphous “top ten”.
It is all tied up with our mother being spontaneous and seeing that it was showing at the Tivoli while driving down Delmar, and exclaiming, “Let’s go tonight!” And we did. And it was the greatest.
I am also a huge fan of Wyoming, although I’ve always thought Montana was just a little bit greener and more spectacular. Have you read Gretel Ehrlich’s “The Solace of Open Spaces”? It’s a great take on the lonesome life of cowboys in Wyoming.
If you ever plan a trip there, let me know! I will send you some geology info that is required (in my opinion, haha) to really appreciate the west. After all, if the Chamberlins are true history buffs, Earth history must be appealing too π
I am aiming for next summer! First to Denver to do some research on the Houghs and then on to Wyoming! I want to go to there.
