“Merrill, swing away”

by chuckofish

How was your weekend? Mine was rather gloomy–cloudy with the threat of rain–but befitting Halloween.

The Cancer Walk in Dallas went well–so much pink!

Daughter #1 and I went to a couple of estate sales in big old houses on Saturday. One was on Kingsbury Place, built in 1920…

(I looked it up in my book on Kingsbury Place when I got home.)

It seemed like no one had lived it in for awhile and that someone had finally gotten around to emptying it out. Daughter #1 got a nice old clock, but it was mostly dusty old collections of nothing very interesting. Plus, it was extremely crowded, so I couldn’t really get a sense of the house. The neighborhood must have experienced a lot of damage in last year’s tornado–no trees and still some boarded up windows!

The second house was in Ames Place in U. City–another three-story brick construction with big rooms and high ceilings. This one also needed some work, but, boy, were those homes built to last. Impressive to say the least.

Later daughter #1 came over for dinner and we watched The Birds in my darkened home.

There were two parties in the neighborhood, so lots of cars, but no one knocked on the door. Mr. Smith kept watch…

Meanwhile…

Since the twins were in Texas, I went to the later service on Sunday morning after Sunday School. The music was provided by several teenagers and the Indroit was provided by the children’s choral group–it made me cry right off the bat! We had a great sermon on I Corinthians 4:1-21. What do you have that you did not receive? Well, I felt the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart.

And we sang Ida’s favorite hymn…

Sunday night I watched Signs (2002)–such a good movie. So I cried at the beginning of the day and at the end…and that’s okay.
