March comes in like a rockety ride
by chuckofish
A new month has commenced! March, the weather forecasters predicted, would come in like a lion.
They sure had everyone in a tizzy of expectation. Church was even called off yesterday! (The rector is in the holy land–is this what happens when the cat’s away?) In fact, most churches in the area canceled all services because of the expected 10″ of snow/sleet. Unheard of in the “olden” days! Can’t say that I wasn’t pleased to be able to stay in bed and read Olivier and Parrot by Peter Carey.
I also finished The Sweet-Shop Owner by Graham Swift, which was well-written and held my interest, but I can’t say I recommend it unless you are in the mood for a depressing story about post-WWII England.
But back to the weather and our snow-pocalypse that didn’t happen.
In fact, not much happened.
But Spring will be here before we know it! You know this is true.
Here’s evidence:
P.S. I did not watch the Oscars. I watched Serenity (2005) which was nominated for no Academy Awards (although 8 years later Chiwetel Ejiofor was nominated for Best Actor in 12 Years a Slave). However, it is a favorite of mine. I am a leaf on the wind…

I was thinking of you guys in the Flyover State when I heard the predictions…glad they didn’t come true. On the subject of the Oscars, it seems some folks liked one of your least favorite movies more than you did…go figure!
Well, as it turns out we are having a snow day! Absolutely all schools are closed. Although we didn’t get much snow, it is icy and the temperature is 8 degrees. Boo. The Oscars turned out exactly the way I thought they would. No surprises there at all.
Enjoy a nice quiet day at home!
Glad you didn’t get walloped by snow. I did watch the Oscars for a while — the jokes were tired and everything was predictable, but some of the dresses were pretty (Naomi Watts had the best one). Chris and I texted back and forth for a while, which was fun, but then I just gave up and went to bed.
Between the apparent conspiracy of the Weather Dudes to bump their ratings – by keeping us needlessly agitated and glued to their stations for 36 hours – and the apparent contempt with which the credentialed elite in media (excepting a certain network news producer) hold anyone who lives inside the mountain ranges – I’ve come to wonder why we watch anything on broadcast television or any movie released after 1999.
I believe we of the Flyover should collectively secede and let the Coastals figure out how to feed, clothe and warm themselves. We certainly don’t need anything THEY produce.
Hello, what?
We have a snow day today too, which I’m OK about 🙂 I’ll be reading Theory all day, though…
I thought Ellen was funny but I didn’t care about ANY of the awards. I liked Lupita’s dress a lot, and Jennifer Lawrence looked pretty, too. I still hate Amy Adams and I’m over Jared Leto.
I like the Katy and the Big Snow illustration!
I knew I could work it into a post someday!
