Grant us strength and courage*

How was your weekend?
I started mine off by going to a “Mass of Remembrance” (in other words, a Memorial Service) on Friday for the daughter of a friend of mine–a sad occasion, indeed.
However, I have to say that I, who am not easily shocked these days, was shocked to find out that this R.C. church uses white wine in the Eucharist service! (The explanation was that it is easier to clean and does not stain the linen.) Heavens to Betsy! What is the world coming to? I would sooner drink grape juice with the Baptists than white wine at communion. Gluten-free wafers and white wine. I will spare you more grumbling…but honestly what’s next?
I watched Hondo on Friday night and that cheered me up.
Then I had lunch with the boy on Saturday.
We went to Steak ‘N Shake which never lets you down.
Sunday was the pick day weather-wise with blue sky and temperatures in the fifties! I went to church but skipped our 155th Annual Meeting. I walked around my favorite antique mall and then took a long walk around our flyover town in the afternoon and then did some world-class puttering around our house. I caught up on my “desk work” as my Aunt Susanne used to call it.
All in all, not a bad weekend!
βGuard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.β

I love your Emerson quote. I had a good weekend, too, but woke up this morning to fresh snow and more falling, which does not make me eager to go to work. One gets tired of shoveling a path to the car and then cleaning it off. Grumble, grumble. I should look at it as an opportunity for fresh air and exercise!
It is the going to work in all that winter weather that gets old. All the old man does is grumble about the cold weather. It is winter. Spring will come–then everyone will grumble about the heat. I say, let’s be grateful for our heated homes and warm clothes. π
Roger that!
I had a lovely weekend, the highlight of which was Steak n Shake! I also got my car washed at Waterway on Sunday and they did a great job. What a treat π
I hope it was sauv blanc!
I’m grumbling about the news, not the cold. I would be perfectly happy to go about my business in contented appreciation for my time and place – but I seem to be trolled for concern daily.
It’s the Winter – you’re confusing Weather and Climate Change.
After the winter Weather it is tornado season. Don’t be confused!!! – Climate Change CAUSES extreme Weather!!! It rains and blows and the power goes out. Usually on Sunday afternoon. 1st World problems!! You are so fortunate to have power at all!!! Don’t burn coal! No Nukes!! Don’t Frack!!
(OK then – turn off the internet).
Finally we get about five nice spring days, then it is Heat Alert and the grass turns brown. Climate Change isn’t Weather!!! Stay Inside!!! SPF45!!! Don’t Breathe!!! Don’t waste our precious natural aquifer water resources watering your artifically green lawn!!! (Well, yeah, yours does come out of the Meramec River, but still . . . 1st World Problems!!!).
Then it will be Hurricanes!!! We only had two – fewest in 500 years, but one of them hit Important Places and Important People. CLIMATE CHANGE IS BAD!!! Lions and Tigers and Bears. Oh My!!
Then we get about ten nice fall days in late September.
Then it snows again.
Don’t be confused.
Okay–rant much?
Love the Old man’s rant…..I just want to know why some weather extremist decided a cold snap needed to be monikered a polar vortex.
I love the guy in the garden! And I want to be taken out to lunch at Steak N Shake.
