Ye saints of the Lord

How was your weekend? We had a beautiful one in flyover country. Fall is here: cool and crisp with a (nearly) cloudless blue sky above. Saturday was perfect for our Missouri river cruise.

We had lunch onboard and we randomly sat with three ladies I actually knew from my LLI days at my flyover university. These same ladies had also coincidentally attended the University City Historical Society annual dinner last week where daughter #1 had been checking people in. It’s a small world indeed. I find this comforting.

Augusta, where we embarked, is a nice little town with a thriving winery. It was hopping so we stopped at the winery in Defiance further down the road on the way home, but clearly everyone had the same idea and the place was packed! We headed home to Kirkwood and 4Hands where we sat outside for awhile with a glass of wine by the train tracks. Very nice, but not really our vibe.

On Sunday I went to the early service at church as usual and met the boy and the twins. I love standing next to my son who really belts out the hymns, and we sang good ones.

Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
for I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

I love knowing that that comes from Isaiah 41:10!

I heard all about Lottie being in the Clayton HS homecoming parade on Friday…

…and that the bud got to ride in a golf cart with his Mom and throw candy…

(Nice pants, daughter #3!)

Good times.

Sunday was also my wedding anniversary and I was reminded that “the Puritan ethic of marriage was first to look not for a partner whom you do love passionately at this moment but rather for one whom you can love steadily as your best friend for life, then to proceed with God’s help to do just that.” (J.I. Packer) The Puritans get everything right.

And this is excellent.
