“And everything starts today.”

I read the other day that it was the 20th Anniversary of Guster’s album, Keep It Together. It’s hard to believe but then, I did just have my 20th high school reunion, so that tracks. Sigh. This will always remind me of my sophomore year Winter Term trip to the Ghost Ranch in New Mexico. My cabin checked out that CD player and then didn’t return it for the rest of the trip. The only thing was we only had one CD–this one.
I imagine listening to Keep It Together is how my mother feels listening to Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours which someone in her dorm had and listened to on repeat. Although, Fleetwood Mac is much cooler than this Guster CD [insert the crying laughing emoji].
What album takes you back to college?

This is a very different vibe but there is a Rihanna album that we listened to on a loop in college my senior year 😂 and Guster persisted through college for me, too!
The #1 played song on my iTunes in 2006 was Feel Good Inc by Gorillaz lmao
Also the band America and their album History: America’s Greatest Hits; and, of course, Neil Young’s Harvest!
Trivia note: The artwork of the History album was by a then-unknown artist named Phil Hartman, later famous as an actor and comedian, and brother of the group’s then-manager, John Hartmann. WHAT?!
Thank goodness no one in college listened to that hippie Neil Young.
That’s a tough question because every year of college was different. As freshmen, we went through a Joni Mitchell, CSNY phase — 10 years out of date. Then Bob Seger and the Eagles, and finally a lot of Bowie, Blondie, Pat Benetar and the Police. I can’t point to any particular album.
Steely Dan “Countdown to Ecstasy” (My Old School) was on every dorm room turntable.
