When the going gets tough, stop and play

by chuckofish

It’s Friday! I must say that despite the papers waiting for my attention I’m very glad to see the end of the week. It wasn’t bad; just busy. When I get very tired and burned out and I can’t settle on anything to watch or read, I fill the time before bed by playing fast games online. I don’t play intense computer games that entail hours of quests and violence. I don’t have the patience for it and they just make me feel dizzy and sick to my stomach. No, I’m talking about the online versions of old favorites. I try to do an easy crossword puzzle every day and aim to complete it under 10 minutes. Here’s this morning’s USA Today puzzle.

As you can see, that isn’t exactly difficult. It’s more like a trivia game than the Times Crossword. I’m too lazy (and mentally tired) for difficult puzzles. I also like Outspell, the online version of Scrabble. I play on the easiest setting and the computer lets me win. We use a lot of three-letter words:

When I’m really, really tired, which is to say most of the time, I play the most mindless game, Solitaire. I like it because I can let my mind wander and think about other things while I’m playing.

It requires no skill, so it’s perfect. I also play online Backgammon from time to time but the computer keeps winning, so generally I prefer the easy games.

Anyway, if you’re too tired to do anything else and even online shopping puts you to sleep, you don’t have anything to say, and it’s too early to go to bed, try an online game. They are diverting and at least make you feel as if you are doing something.

Have a superb weekend!
