Well said, Daphne

Happy birthday to Daphne du Maurier (13 May 1907 – 19 April 1989). Let’s toast her tonight and read from one of her great books. Jamaica Inn is my favorite. When she is in top form, there is no one better than Daphne du Maurier. Sadly, none of the movies made from her books are (in my opinion) all that great except, of course, for The Birds (1963).

Classic scene
I know you aren’t a Joan Fontaine fan, but “Rebecca” isn’t a bad movie. Do you remember the Jane Seymour “Jamaica Inn”? I wonder how that has stood the test of time. When I read the short story “The Birds” I was surprised at how little the movie resembled it, but boy, was it disturbing… Now I’m in the mood to read one of her books. Thanks!
I checked to see if the Jane Seymour version was available on Netflix and it is NOT. I was bummed–because I remember it being pretty good.
You can watch the whole thing on youtube, although the picture quality isn’t great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5DhbjCvPsc&list=PL9UyuGo6Z4ee7v-d2Zh8Ep1nUzGvEe01q
Oh boy, I’m going to watch!
This is lovely!
