“I exist as I am, that is enough”*
by chuckofish
Well, thank you, fastcoexist.com for letting me know that I live in one of the worst states for “well-being”.
Yes, there we are in gray in flyover country. Well, I say phooey.
Don’t you get tired of being told the results of surveys and studies? I say, live your life and forget about surveys.
I think I will give them up for Lent.
Meanwhile, our well-being in flyover country is greatly enhanced by the fact that these guys are back in training.
C’mon, Mike, turn around!
“I exist as I am, that is enough,
If no other in the world be aware I sit content,
And if each and all be aware I sit content.
One world is aware, and by the far the largest to me, and that is myself.”
(Walt Whitman)

How absurd to think there is more well-being in New York than in Missouri! I’m with you…no more stupid surveys. Love the Walt Whitman 🙂
I know–I thought the same thing. And Illinois! Please.
But what even is “well-being”? I SO beg to differ. But oh, how Walt makes everything better!
According to the article, the “survey” covers five aspects of well-being and doesn’t just ask how people are feeling generally about things. The elements are “purpose” (are you motivated to fulfill your goals?); “social” (having supportive relationship and love in your life); “financial” (do money problems stress you out?); “community” (liking your neighborhood); and “physical” (being in good health).
Walt does make everything better! (And Mike Matheny)
The scoring overweighted health, within which it overweighted percentage of population in ‘obese’ category by BMI; It also overweighted percentage of population that is ‘active smoker.’
Missouri is supposedly the 6th fattest state in the nation and #1 in percentage of active smokers, ergo we are unhealthy.
Love the Walt! And frankly, I think those standards make Missouri seem much more suited to well-being than New York.
🙂
Ridiculous survey (but aren’t most of them?). Hope to see Mike in three weeks down at Spring Training and will surely pass on your regards (and will tell him to turn around once in a while)!
Thanks–I’d appreciate that!
