Happy birthday, Susiebelle!
by chuckofish
Today is daughter #2’s birthday!
I hope she is having a lovely day in Maryland, wined and dined by her friends and colleagues. Hopefully the sun is shining, the birds are singing and she is wearing something new and pretty.
But I sure miss her and wish we could celebrate her 24th birthday together. C’est la vie.
Well, even though her tresses are not raven, I always think of this poem by Lord Byron when I think of the “belle”:
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
Happy birthday–we’ll be toasting you (and missing you) tonight!

I love the top pic. It’s priceless! Susie is adorable and her siblings angelic. It’s perfect. Happy Birthday, miss Susie (I always want to say Susie Louisa after her great great grandmother)!
And I always want to sing, “Susie Cameron Compton baby–baby in a diaper–Baby Power!” (to the tune of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”). When Susie was a baby and I drove carpool, the kindergartners, Michael Hays and Mary, sang this every day in the car…
Don’t you wish you had a recording?
Oh dear — that first picture is ridiculous! Today *will* be nice, though I am not wearing anything new!! XOXO
You were about to cry. I love your little foot in this picture.
Hope your package arrives!! 🙂
Happy birthday, Susie!!! Cutie pie!
We all have the same hair color in this picture! How strange!
I noticed that too! You certainly look like siblings.
