“I have a story that will make you believe in God” —

except, of course, that you already do.
Run, don’t walk, to see Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi”. I saw it this afternoon and I loved it. It is both breathtakingly beautiful and true to the book.
And it reminds us that a well-told story can capture the meaning of an event where mere facts can only record what happened. In this day and age of “science first” and obsessive “fact-checking” it’s worth remembering that “to choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation.” (p. 28)

Well, that’s a surprise! Not what I was expecting at all. But I guess I should have since Ang Lee is the director. I really liked the book. Well, then.
Definitely go see it! And if you’re lucky, you won’t have a family of six (including two small girls –probably 5 and under) eating and talking through it. They came twenty minutes late and then kept getting up to get more food and drink. I can’t imagine they had a clue what was going on. Sometimes I wonder why I ever go see movies in a theater. That said, this one is worth the risk. It is so beautiful! I didn’t see it in 3D and don’t for a minute think it’s necessary to. But everyone is wonderful. Ang Lee is awesome.
Innnnnnteresting. Mary and I were just listing reasons why not to go see this movie. Our judgments weren’t based on much, though, so I’ll take your word for it — this also makes me want to reread the book!
