Hot as satan’s hoof
by chuckofish
Last week I replaced the pillows on my wicker sofa in the Florida Room. Unfortunately, it has been way too hot (108-degrees yesterday!) to enjoy this room except in the early hours of the day. Zut alors!
We are in the middle of a drought as well. Maybe tonight would be a good night to watch “The Rainmaker”–that’s the movie (1956) with Katharine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster, not the John Grisham one released in 1997 with Matt Damon. Or maybe not. It’s not a great movie.
I must say I’m feeling a little like Lizzie Curry these days.
What would be a good choice of movie to watch tonight? That is, of course, if the electricity holds out!
(Props to the boy for using his blog name in my post.)

Well, if you want to counter the heat go for something really cold like “the Grey” or “the Thing”… you could also go for the super heat — “Lawrence of Arabia” or the drought episode in “Rawhide”, which should bring back fond memories.
I love the cushions!
I wish I could get my hands on that Rawhide episode! I wonder if it’s on Netflix? Ice cubes at the ready…
On a Burt Lancaster-and-heat related note there’s Rope of Sand (which I watched last night actually), great cast/so-so movie or another hot, Hot, HOT Burt movie, THE PROFESSIONALS!
Great idea!
I watched Rope Of Sand at your suggestion–It was pretty good. Claude Rains stole the show. And I’ve never seen so much smoking (puff puff) in a movie in my life!
“God almighty, I’ve known heat before, but this is… I hate the desert. It’s got no… pity.”
Robert Ryan!
And don’t forget “the heat of Arabia came out like a drawn sword and struck us speechless”!
I can really relate to that one–walking into the garage at work today was JUST like that.
The Florida room looks really nice btw 🙂
I was unable to think of a good movie to watch on a hot day. My inability to do so was punished with a blackout, so now it’s twice as hot and I have to walk 15 minutes to use the internet. Started reading Moby Dick morning, hoping that the sea would cool me down. It’s been working so far.
Keep going with Moby Dick–you’ll love it! Hope your electricity is back on (and hope ours does not go out)!
