A Mary picture for Monday
by chuckofish
Here is a picture of daughter #1 when she was about 7 months old. She is pictured with her grandmother and namesake, along with the daughter of my friend Harriet and my friend’s mother–all four named Mary. How great is that?
Even if my mother had been named Ethel or Gertrude or Bernice, I would have named my daughter after her. And I would have learned to love the name Ethel or Gertrude or Bernice. As it is, I love the name Mary and have never regretted naming my daughter #1 after my mother. I was named after my grandmother who was named after her grandmother. My mother was named after her great-grandmother. Her older sister was named after her 2 grandmothers, Susie and Anna, i.e. Susanne. It is a tradition of which I heartily approve. Ahem.

What a great pic — I remember when it was taken. And it really wouldn’t have mattered if you had named Mary Bernice because we called her “cupcake of love” anyway. And isn’t she? Quelle adorable baby!
You know you are going to have several grandbaby-Catherines running around eventually… don’t worry!
We use to tease my mother that she wanted ALL her grandchildren named Mary (boys and girls). Sort of like George Foreman and all the Georges. Haha.
Thank you goodness I didn’t have to be named ETHEL. But this pic is very cute–and not embarrassing at all 🙂
You know Lauren and I were naming our babies YEARS before we got engaged (haha) and Catherine is def daughter #1
Sarah is also a nice name!! Hint hint
I do think Sarah Sargent is really great. We really have too many great names in this family… I need to have like 9 kids…
