Winter Wonderland? I think not

Today’s local headline: Ice storm warning issued; roads getting slipperier as ice accumulates; sleet, freezing rain to continue…
Oh, joy. And on the first day of classes too. I’ve been here at work since 7:20 am and now I’m going home. But first I get to spend a half hour or so trying to chip my car out of the ice. Then the slippery ride home. On the way here this morning I had to pull over and scrape the windshield even though the inside of my car was tropical. I’m not looking forward to this. On the bright side — it is pretty!

It snowed a 1/2 inch today here and traffic was apparently horrendous on all major highways. People were acting like it was snowpocalypse and the Mayan calendar was 11 months late in ending the world… My favorite thing about it was the endless facebook statuses by people complaining about the accidents and terrible snow-driving… from their CELLPHONES in their CARS.
It was pretty bad this morning in our friendly flyover state. MODOT did nothing and the highways as a result were impassable. It was gruesome and it took me twice as long as usual to get to work. I think they are trying to “prove” something. Not enough $$ to get the job done. Please.
I hope you got home safely in the north country where you had a legit storm!

I got home safe and sound and even managed to stop at the grocery store (and liquor store — really, it could be days without electricity!). Things are pretty quiet now but it is supposed to sleet/snow all day tomorrow. They’re saying 4-8 inches of gunk, which if it’s snow, won’t be too bad. Ice is another thing…
And I well remember how things were in good old MO, but don’t feel bad, we’re grossly wimpy about heat!
Tim and I spent 45 minutes clearing off the car today. Both of us scraped at the ice simultaneously for 45 minutes.
