Halloween alter-egos
by chuckofish
Mrs. Doubtfire, D’Artagnan and a Power Ranger (c. 1994). Clearly a lot of effort went into those costumes (and makeup!) But this was the Halloween when 4-year-old daughter #2 famously asked if next year she could have a “real” costume. In other words, one bought in a store. Somehow Halloween lost its luster after that. (See the Homemade Power Ranger vs. the “real” Power Ranger below right.)
I think she was a witch (wearing her sister’s oft-worn, hand-me-down costume) the next year.
P.S. Check out that store-bought Lion King!

Those boots (for my costume) were so champion… nevermind the fact that Mrs. Falk made me wear her stupid matching fleur-de-lis cheepo fronts because she made them for Teddy, Frank and me… shall i continue on my rant? im sure you sympathize… Needless to say, i had the coolest Musketeer boots in University City. Perhaps STL.
…and nearly 20 years later, i still cant grow a mustache that legit…
At least your eyebrows finally materialized!
I sympathize with Susie — Tim suffered the same fate. I was pretty burned out on Halloween costumes by the time he was interested so he always got a hand-me-down. When the older two and their friends went as everyone from Harry Potter, Tim, who was in Kindergarten and therefore not quite into it, had to go as Dobby the house elf. Everyone in his class thought he was a frog with a hat (a tea cozy) on his head and a tea towel for a shirt. Poor Tim.
I can’t believe the first time you mention Daughter #2, THIS is the story you tell. Sigh.
I know–sorry! š
LOVE IT.
HA! What a perfect Mrs. Doubtfire Mary made! My kids, too, had to suffer the Halloween indignity of ‘homemade’ costumes….poor things!
